Carter Construction

Project Goal

Carter Construction is a local contractor who was looking to update their logo to match the upscale work that they do. The original logo was done by a friend, so it was time for them to bring their branding up a notch.

Logo Creation

They already had a logo done, so we didn’t want to make a massive change to the brand. We went through a few iterations, but they were all a little too corporate. Then late one night, when all great ideas are realized, it came to me. I sketched out the main logo and brought in a smaller wordmark that still kept the feel of the original but much more thoughtful and elevated.

The original sketch started off as a simple diamond. We wanted to add a little more without doing anything too literal; no hammers, no saws, and we wanted to move away from the very literal roof over the original logo. The diamond has a bit of a natural two point perspective that we wanted to build off of. So we took the name and gave it an architectural bend to read as the corner of a building. Just like in construction, we kept everything very precise, measured twice, cut and pasted once. For the color, I pulled from an image of a room Carter Construction worked on in my own house. I then found a matching Pantone color to make sure they had everything they needed to use this logo online and in print.
